Default My Own Kickstarter or How I Jumped On the Bandwagon

Hello everyone, I am sure some of you remember when I posted a thread about my senior capstone project. Well after a great reception at the capstone event I decided to take my chances on Kickstarter to try and fund a bigger and better version of the game that could have be release commercially. Over the past month and a half I have been working on getting this Kickstarter campaign up an running. This includes creating a website called DeadDodoGames.com. Finally yesterday I launched the Kickstarter.

If you don't have any interest in donating towards my project it would be just as awesome if you passed this along to your friends. I have a Facebook page here, and Twitter here.

you hyperlinked your website wrong here, you have it as deaddododames. Nice prototype, I'll pass it around.

Hey man, totally missed this, since I haven't been browsing the site as much these days, but the game looks really fun.

Too bad that the kickstarter isn't going super well so far. If i had to guess, it's probably because the game so far has pretty programmer art-esque aesthetics, and it's not really looking like you'll be spending the money on improving that end? I think if you are going for something this simple, it probably needs to be really slick. Perhaps more 'graphic-design' style:

      http://www.webopius.com/content/wp-c...hic-design.jpg

      http://images.wikia.com/tig/images/b/b9/Flow.jpg

But I think the rewards being people having to put work into creating things for your game, instead of receiving something more valuable in return might also be a tough aspect.

But, I hope it doesn't get you down man, the game really does look fun once in motion. If you need help creating a simple aesthetic for the game, I could always throw my hat in the ring, and give you some help when I have some spare time. Also, if you need help with sound design and music, I have some really talented friends who are always looking for projects to help with.

As far as art, perhaps if you went more in the direction of the Radiangames stuff:
      http://radiangames.com/

If you are able to work on the particle effects, and make some really fancy stuff there, it could possibly help a lot.

Thanks for the feedback ASE. I didn't really say much about what I was going to do with the graphics did I. These certainly aren't the final graphics, but at the same time I was also trying to go for a different look than what most similar games look like, which is basically either trying to look like geometry wars or radiangames. Maybe this is because I haven't really settled on exactly what I want to do with the graphics yet.

Particle effects is something that I am sorely lacking at the moment, it was one of those things that got cut from what is now the prototype for time issues.

I'm viewing this more as a learning experience right now for future projects, so I'm not letting it get me down. Although I am interested in your sound design/musical friends, if you could maybe send me some links to their websites if any of them have their own?

Hey man, fair enough regarding the visuals.

I was wondering though, what is the gameplay like in general? It seems to be a level-based twin-stick shooter? Do you plan on having power-ups/ different weapons?

So, here are some samples from some sound guys I know.

Devin and Tanya (Syntonic Sound, did all the music/ sound effects for Ninja Exorcist)

It is a level based twin-stick shooter. Currently there are 4 power-ups you can pick up (power shot, triple shot, speed shoot, and gigantism), there will also be multiple classes with different weapons and abilities that you can play with. What exactly those classes will be I can't say at the moment, but if you look at the enemies you can get a good sense of what kind of weapons they might use.

Can't say because you ond't know or because you don't want to reveal it yet? Not joking just curious. But alas now for the real reason I came to this thread. I now have the most recent post on all of the most recent threads... WAKE UP SK.net I need you now more than ever! I don't really but I just lurk this place a couple times a day same with xbox.com when I get bored. Back on topic is this game kind of along the lines of shred nebula (which was horrendous I thought) but based on another game that I think was good (I think geometry wars) but with other additional stuff because you can't just copy and paste another game (oh wait **** what about words with friends and the million other copies of that which was online scrabble) or angry birds or the xbox indie title angry fish? Now I'm not busting on your game just all these other games. I wanted shred nebula so bad until I played the demo and then did not want it anymore so if you could make a good version of it (by the way are you making it for xbox live indie or comp) I would probably buy it if it's the former. Imagine a open world twin stick shooter that had people in it that you could kill with no consequences... I miss killing civies in games... TH2 let me kill those weird haircut civilians that all had like square hair and faces... Mr. Dodo I expect you to make my dreams come true now since I've put my vulnerable soul out there. Please don't crush it...

There isn't a single game I set out to copy specifically, but it defiantly isn't an original concept. I have never heard of Shred Nebula before, but after watching a couple gameplay videos they are defiantly similar games.

As of right now there are no plans for XBLIG, but I wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility. There are just a few barriers there that a young programmer like myself has little to no experience with that makes it difficult to program for. Even if it isn't I will support controllers on the PC, so if you hook up your controller to the PC it should be the exact same experience.

Shred nebula looked so good but was so awful... I hope you could eventually put it on XBLIG because I don't really use my comp for gaming at all. I use it to lurk and troll and that's pretty much that. Now what you could also do if you're not concerned with not having an original concept is take torchlight 2, copy the crap out of it, and somehow put it on my console. Remember if you steal their copyrighted stuff I'll be you're lawyer since I'm an expert on bird law. (Someone better get that) And as a another plus I'm always a great wildcard bitches. Back OT I don't really have the ability to use my comp a ton since it's not mine and is usually in use by others so hopefully XBLIG will have your game and not more angry fish. Now I want you to make an angry dodo game except when you try to launch them the dodo falls to its death because they can't fly and you get a message saying you've just made the dodo extinct again... make sure to charge people though and not have a trial for it. Or I suppose you could put a jetpack on it which would be cool. Now back OT again I believe shred nebula was just an "enhanced" version of geometry wars. Back off topic again if you made a micheal vick death sim I would buy it for me and all my friends immediately (if it was $1 or something like that since I'm not made of cash). Just make sure you make a level where he learns doggy style in prison. I beg of you.
