Default What Type of Game SK Needs To Make?

So lets say that there is no Eternal Darkness sequel to get them back on their feet.
What genre they need to get into in order to survive for more years to come?

There's lots of favorite games?genres out there, but do you guys think that they should make something smaller(XBLA style games) or go all out again and try to make something big and risk not making money on it?

Any thoughts, advice, ideas for them? I'm hoping DD has a plan B,C and D in motion, I really do.

Honestly, without an ED game, SK might as well be dead in the water. Their reputation is shot. TH was (unfairly) universally panned before it even arrived. X-Men Destiny was (fairly) panned again. SK has done everything they possibly can to earn ill will from the media and consumers a like while doing absolutely nothing to engender any positive feelings. At this point I think the only hope they have, if they even have the cash to do it, is to make an Eternal Darkness game, and try and get whatever money they can from that. The problem is with it being a Wii U game, I wonder if the Wii U will sell well enough to make ED profitable especially with nintendo's lack of hold on the "core" audience these days.
Just because Im a priest doesn't mean I don't get off on watching rogues die.......? Wrong game? oh.... Just because Im a defender doesn't mean I like getting hit in the head, it just means Im better at it. I think.... Im dizzy.

while I hate to admit it your probably right... Though if ED is a launch title for wii U that might change a few things....

though who knows maybe th2 could give them some profitiablity... I mean I keep seeing more and more people pop up saying how the game was great and not anything like the reviewers said it was..... but they all got it from bargin bins... or used... so im sure TH has a decent chance to be profitable sequel wise.... theyd just need to up the hype by releaseing a 4 player coop patch for th1 :P

XBLA/PSN do something on a smaller scale where they can really focus on high quality, and simplicity. The worst thing they could do right now is try and build another big budget game.

I think we are on the same page Eleazar, not only is it risky to be working on something else other than a sequel to ED, but this will help them build their reputation.

If DD is saying that the team is smaller and they are getting back to their roots, then I don't see why they shouldn't try making a few smaller games.
A lot of these smaller games are getting high praises, SK IMO should get a slice of that glory with a well crafted game that can appeal to casual and hardcore a like.

Yeah they need to do another Eternal Darkness. There are plenty of games companies that die based on a single game that doesn't do well. I think SK are only surviving on taxpayers money.

I think that the concern of nintendo not being able to hold the hardcore gamers should bring problems to a sequel of ED, at this stage, so I agree with the others stating that putting all the chips on a high-budget/high-risk game right now is not just a bad idea for SK, but the worst idea.

I think they should build a XBLA smash button RPG like Castle Crashers but with far more dark and obscure. Or maybe a DOTA for consoles. Or maybe release TH for PC Platform.

      Thanks AKAtheDopeman!

Dora would be terrible on home consoles just because of the controls.

Also XBLA games a re actually still a big risk. There are plenty of companies who release there and die off because it's a smaller market that still has a lot of fees with it.

The point isn't so much that it has to be on XBLA, only that it needs to be a similar scope to an XBLA game. Yes there is still risk there, there is always risk, but for a company that is already an established company the risk is much smaller than a AAA budget game. It would be much easier for them to find a partner willing to fund the endeavor. For SK all signs point to them needing funding just to stay alive over making the game they actually want to make.

Antoher Blood Omen - with the HD release of the Legacy series I think there's a market for an action RPG genre surrounding this mythos and lore.

They've released a couple DOTA style clones for XBOX with more on the way. It would be of interest to note that Guild Wars was also considered intially just for consoles and then moved to PC. Consoles can do much more than we perceive.

I see your point with small arcade titles being sucked into practical non-existence but SK has some fame/notoriety that could cement some very nice sales numbers or at least attention and trial downloads just off their name alone.
