Default SK to become Self-sustainable and Self-Publishing

Denis just sent me a link to this awesome announcement from the Ontario Newsroom. The Ontario government is helping SK secure old jobs and provide new jobs along with allowing them to be Self-sustainable and Self-publishing.

Can we say TH2 with no outside influence (except for us fans ) telling SK what they need to do with TH!!!! What do you think? Here is the text of the article.

McGuinty Government Helps Expand Gaming Company in St. Catharines

Ontario is helping Silicon Knights - a St. Catharines-based video game company - expand its production capabilities, create 80 new jobs and protect 97 existing positions.

With the province's support, the company is developing the best 3D Game Development Engine that will include new advanced camera systems, improved audio and video and better computing technology. The new 3D tools will help the company develop the next generation of gaming systems and become a self-sustainable, self-publishing company.

Investing in local business is a key component of the McGuinty Government's plan to create and support jobs for Ontario families and strengthen local economies.
There is another article about the funding in the St. Catherines Standard.

      Silicon Knights gets provincial funding
      Updated 5 hours ago
Local video game developer Silicon Knights received nearly $3 million in provincial funding to improve it's technology, create new products and become a self-publishing company.

The funding, announced Thursday by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello, will be added to a around $35 million investment made by the company and it's partners over five years to build a new future for Silicon Knights.

Denis Dyack, president of Silicon Knights, said the investment will allow the company to improve it's technology, hire 80 new people while keeping 97 current jobs and allow the company to become "self sustaining."

Great freaking news!! New Engine? does this mean that TH2 might run on a new engine?? Still, this is great news.
Silicon Knights future is looking bright!! I'm super happy for them.

If legal troubles about the silicon knights engine are what prevents too human 2 or any other game from being released with it's code in it, then yes if a new engine is being made and Denis gets to self publish it would seem a few major obstacles for TH2 have been removed.

I wonder if the engine will be public or only in house.

Industry Gamers has a pretty long article with a bit of new information.

"With Ontario government support, we are better-positioned to further develop the 8th Art of video games. This will enhance our competitive edge within the highly-competitive video game market, help us become a self-sustainable, self-publishing entity, and allow us to enter lucrative global markets," said Denis Dyack, President of Silicon Knights.

"Our province continues to be an innovative leader in the high-growth, global video game market. Ontario's support to Silicon Knights will expand production of its unique, next-generation 3D Game Engine, target new markets, and create highly-skilled jobs for St. Catharines and the surrounding community," said Sandra Pupatello Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

Haha, I wouldn't be so sure that it is just a joke. Unless they can't for legal reasons I would not be bit surprised if TH2 was the first game they self-publish, in fact I would be surprised if it wasn't.

Hmm. Kind of depends of how Xmen does, I suppose.

I really don't know how much public opinion and profitability are going to affect what they do next, but the throngs clamor for Eternal Darkness 2, though by the time such a game were to be completed it would be over ten years since the original, and it's a very different marketplace than it used to be.

My assumption is that Too Human 2 will not have Too Human in the title. Too much negative press. Call it Rise of the Giants, make a sweet teaser for it, and the loyalists will know what it is, and average Joe Gamer will see a cool New Thing.

no i was joking that its confirmation on TH2 will be out soon since one of the reasons TH2 is taking so long is the lawsuit... and well i dont really remeber where i was going with it to be perfectly honest XD

I know you were joking, I was just pointing out that TH2 is at the top of their list of games to make, and the only reason it wouldn't be the first ($60 box game) game they self-publish is legal reasons. If they are using a completely new engine the legal battle might not prevent them from publishing it.

There's nothing like it on any of the current consoles and that should be reason enough to continue the trilogy.
There's people finding out about this game every day and it would be a shame and a huge blow to us fans if they don't make it.

I will wait patiently for the rise of the giants, so in the mean time I will enjoy everything else SK decides to make before they decide to wake the giants up.

I guess too, just look at how much Section 8 : prejudice got bombed because the first wasn't that good.(By bombed I mean: "Lol section 8, reviewers said the first sucked this one will too")
But I don't know if TH was bombed as hard and so, if it will have the same negative feedback on a sequel?

A Giant will indeed rise when Too Human 2 is announced. That giant will also create lots of snow inside pants.

Too human is already a gigantic, but if there is giants, it's going to be enormous!
