Default Rules for being a true fan

An old article by Bill Simmons, but still one of my favorites. I have mailed this article to many people about their sports allegiances. I hate "frontrunner fans"!

I am a huge Simmons fan, he has a lot of good articles on ESPN.com, but he doesn't write for the magazine anymore. If I wrote a sports column, his would be what it would resemble. Tons of pop culture references and severely lacking the ability to hide your true allegiances as a fan.

I just finished one of his books and it was a really good read. Even if you arent a Sawx fan you could probably enjoy it, just because it could explain why Red Sox fans are the way they are. It has a lot of stuff about his relationship with his farther through sports too which was cool to see how he got so deeply rooted in Boston sports.

I don't know...there's a few things in there I agree with and others I don't. When the Phils won the World Series, I was ecstatic. I still pissed and moaned when they traded Cliff Lee this past year though. Kind of turned out ok since he's now sitting out on the DL, but still that was a stupid trade on the Phils part. So five year grace period my ***.

Yeah he has since complained about that one himself. He said it came from making the list in the afterglow of the Patriot's first championship, which was the first in Boston in 15+ years. He wants to take it out of the list now. I can't detach myself enough from my teams to not be mad when they do stupid stuff either, even if it is directly after a World Series win.

That Phil's trade was dumb. I don't understand why they traded two sets of prospects away and also let Lee go for so little. If they wanted Halladay they should have just made the effort to get him first off. I wrote about it in the MLB thread a while back.
