View Full Version : Just beat Too Human....here's my review

Well, I just beat Too Human, not even 5 minutes ago. I played as a cyber zerker and ended the game at level 30, took my time and had fun. However, I think everyone can agree the game was missing something. So here's what I thought of it.

Graphics: 8/10
I thought the graphics were up to date, and perfect in game graphics for the type of game this was. Although the cut scene graphics could have been upgraded, maybe I was just displeased with the lack of epic cut scenes.

Sound: 6/10
People are all ranting and raving over the sound track asking when it is to be released...I have no clue why, the sound was quiet most of the time, as we could only hear the hacking and slashing. The certain times hardcore music came on, which pumped me up, it only lasted 10 seconds.

Story: 7/10
The story at first held my attention. However, once I got to Hel, the cut scene there was so less epic than I thought, it was rather disappointing. Then once I actually killed the "whore" and had to fight my way out that killed the whole accomplishment of killing her. (BTW I didnt get any loot from her...was this intended on the first play through?) The ending cinematic was also a let down, I wanted to hear Loki, maybe talking in his devilish voice about how he had a plan to take everyone down. Baldur in his scene was lame and it was too short to warrant an ending cut scene. ( while sure this is supposed to be the first in a trilogy, if the first one sucks no one will buy the 2nd or 3rd.)

Game play: 9/10
This is what, I feel is the selling point of Too Human. The ability to continue to collect loot, and level up make this game appealing, especially to those Diablo fans. I spent lots of time looking for weapons, buying them etc. I also loved the controls, however they at times became very sketchy. I would try to slide at an enemy only to find that I couldnt target him and would have to use a ruiner to kill him. The camera as you see, will have its own section.

Camera: 6/10
The camera in this game was at times perfectly fine. however, for the time spent making too human, SK, should not have released the ****ty angles that were given at times, it totally killed the fight I was in and would sometimes just be really annoying.

Levels: 5/10
The level development, I felt was very shaky. The first level, I felt was actually fun. Then the repetitiveness of each level began to wear in. Each level, while at first seemed new, became dull, as the environment NEVER changed, nor did the enemies. They were only 4 levels, and I felt, every boss fight was lame, very easy, simple and pointless.

Thats all I have to say at this point. I loved the game, and will continue to play until level 50 on my cyber zerker, if I can stand level farming and etc.

My other random complaints were weapon selection. For me at least I could either go dual staves, or dual swords, with each graphic set looking EXACTLY the same, except one set of swords which I replaced. Maybe this will change, and since I dont know if it does I wont mark it down. I wish there were dual axes, now that would be awesome.

OVERALL: i give the game an 8/10

I loved the game and really wish more people still played it. The reviews, while some were warranted on the bad scores, I felt killed the game, as they drove me away from buying the game until now. The death scene everyone complains about was nothing at all what I thought. Anyone that actually whines over that, and thinks theyd rather have an xp dock is crazy, stop whinning about a 10 sec death scene.

I do have a few complaints.......

1) Sound....There is not a volume adjustment in the options. I find that the hacks, slashes, and voices are fine but when there is a big explosion the sound is deafening. I have to turn down the volume of the game in order to compensate for the loud explosions.

2) Levels....They need more than 4 with more of a variety of mobs.

3) Level cap of 50......Way to low. I do have to admit I have one level 50 guy and started another class but the game is getting a little boring. You fight in the same 4 short levels and fight the same mobs over and over. With the level cap set at 50 there really isn't much to do when you reach that level. You can farm for Aesir weapons and armor but for what? You get a full set of armor and weapons....then what?

4) Camera.....need I say more?

Other than that I think it is a great game. I really like how this is not a button mashing nightmare. The right stick makes it very enjoyable for combat even though they could have added a few more combos. Graphics are great along with the story line. I will defiantly play part 2 and 3 if they do come out with them. I think with a few minor tweaks this game can become a legendary game for SK like Zelda or Fable.

Rating: 8/10

There are more than 4 enemies, correct me if I'm wrong. Sure you could lump them together, but they are all dealt with differently

Goblins
Assault Goblins
Goblin Leaders

Dark Elves
Assault Dark Elves
Sniper Dark Elves
Dark Elf Leaders

Trolls
Assault Trolls
Sniper Trolls

Undead
Undead Wolf Troopers
Undead Necromancers
undead Shock Troopers
Wraiths

Then you have polarities of all of the above, further increasing the variation. That's 15+ different enemies, for 4 levels. Not bad imo.

As someone who pays way too much attention to sound I definatly agree... Altho the music is excellent and the sound effects stellar , the music is just way too far down in the mix... Altho the sound effects are great any sound effects can get annoying when too loud and repeated...

The graphics are amazing.. the detail level is outstanding if you play on HD it's impossible not to see that..

I don't get bored personally with the game yet totally understand why others would... With all the replayable games out and coming out you'd think they'd have randomized the mob spawns a little more... but I hesitate to truly complain as the polarities do randomize to provide a variety....

The end of the story was lack luster and I don't care that they are making two more games, this is still an oversight.... but I'm over it...

Overall... freaking love the game.... down with the haters..

One thing that would have been amazing would have been the random dungeon generator that Diablo II had. The same dungeon was never the same twice, the layout was completely random.

A bit more difficult to do in this game, but I think with some creative tweaking it could be accomplished.

Yes.. Left 4 Dead has that as well... and the AI Director spawning the hordes is great as well..

You can still play the demo if you already have it (At least BB can, but he might be magical). You just can't download it again :(

My exact same complains pretty much, and I really wish it did have the epic feel of zelda, but that's what separates games that define a console and just video games. One dlc however, could make this game soo different and honestly get a higher score from reviewers. Add in just one level, new enemies, say some sort of side boss, he doesnt even have to go along with the main story, add in new armor pieces for all levels, especially 50, and make the level cap 60. It would allow variety, new items to obtain, a little addition to the story, and motivate every level 50 to level up.

But enough with dlc, thats been beaten to death already no need to continue

The day another game lives up to Zelda: The Ocarina of Time's reputation, I will buy whatever system its on that day, without pause.

Unless its a 360, of course :p

I couldn't agree more. I would buy more level DLC and defiantly a higher level cap DLC.

Is there an enemy guide on the site yet? I'd like to make one if there isn't.

It sounds lame to someone who's been playing awhile, but anyone new might want to know what they're up against and how they should take them down.

Are you going to do a strategy for each class or just a generic guide for each enemy?

Redenbacher09
11-20-2008, 04:20 PM
Just a generic guide for each enemy, they are generally handled the same way by all. But if I think of a specific way a class should handle a specific enemy, I'll mention it

Yes and no. Each class guide has an enemy section.

Ah, I see that... guess there's really no point then :/

Well you could write it and put it in the general section. Most of the guests seem to congregate there.

Redenbacher09

I'll probably do it anyway out of boredom, worst comes to worst it's seen as clutter and the mods close it.

iron
11-20-2008, 05:07 PM
Well it should survive for a few pages without being too OT. I'll keep out of it as much as I can. Just be sure you reserve 4-7 posts for additional stuff. You'll need them.

Pffft, let the newbies learn like we did - by dying, taking a trip on the Valkryie Express, and then trying again...and again... and again. ODIN DEMANDS SACRIFICE!!

You two should take this outside and handle this like real internet forum posters...
