View Full Version : Thoughts on Too Human

Just wanted to share some thoughts and opinions on Too Human.

I have put in about 100 hours on my first and only character, a Beserker, all solo (I don't have an XBL Gold account) so all of this is from the perspective of a beserker. I have gotten Unstoppable on HoH and Helheim quite easily. I have probably a dozen and a half red weapons, a dozen red charms, various red runes, and not a single piece of red armor (the joys of the RNG). I have not played it today so these are issues that stand out in my mind from play.

Things I Really Enjoy:
- Straight Up Combat, cleaving through unending hordes of enemies. I only wish that some of the arenas lasted longer, give me quadruple the number of enemies and I would go in with joy.
- Phat Loot, and the degree to which I can customize my character gear-wise.
- The Setting. Cyberpunk Norse Gods FTW! I only wish I could actually explore Midgard.
- the architecture designs, I have simply been blown away by how beautiful the world of Too Human is, the developers did a simply stunning job at semi-modernizing the norse style.
- The armor variety and general style: I LOVE the armor!

Things I Dislike:
- Points of Agonizingly Inevitable Death, example: bouncing around enemies like a pinball of doom, i'm at 30% health, and the last one I take down (appearing from behind of course) was poisoned. I then spend what feels like forever in a desperate but ultimately hopeless attempt to roll around and not die. Example 2: Ice Forest, 4 polarity trolls backed by Rocket goblins, when you spend more time getting your *** carted away by valkeries than fighting, after the first dozen deaths its Just Not Fun.
- Just to reaffirm: Damage-Over-Time polarity enemies Suck.
- Targeting: I can never seem to target the one explody guy in the group before the group gets to me.
- On dismounting from a troll when you hit the ground there's a window where the goblins wail on you but you don't have control of Baldur yet, it has killed me a number of times.
- Not Enough Weapon variety. Don't get me wrong though, I Love the weapons! just would like to see a few more models. there's what, 3, maby 4 2H sword models? Part of this stems from the fact that with armor, your looking for anything with the stats you like, with weapons your looking at the type of wepaon you have specialized your armor and spec in.
- More Targeting: I can't target troll or boss parts as a melee, if I could make a single recommendation to the developers it would be to let me lock onto a target. It would mean I could actually be halfway effective against the mega-troll in World Serpent and could kill trolls without mounting.

While I do have more gripes than likes listed I want to reaffirm that I do find this to be an extremely enjoyable game and look forward to future content and installments.

Some further thoughts:

The charm system bugs me, I Love the charm system in general however I always seem obligated to trade out the completed ones I actually want to use for ones I need to work on, leaving my completed charms rotting in my bags. this unfortunately means I can only Benefit from the charms when I am "Done", which seems counter intuitive to how games like Too Human generally work, what's the point of playing when your finished? The way I would like to see it: have 4 slots, the two Active where only fully completed charms could be placed, and two Passive, where only in-development charms could be placed.

I would really like to see the levels broken up more and a lot more cutscenes., how about a point halfway through Ice Forest where you come across a besieged Hermod and his troops, have a cutscene or two, where they talk, and fight off a few waves of goblins/dark elves with him before moving on. I would really like to have a lot more exposition on all the Aesir and the Too Human world in general.

Note on the charms: this response may come from the fact that I did not figure out how the charms worked till I was 50.

I agree totally with the charms comment it is very frustrating to go into helheim with no active charms trying to kill 8000 undead or 12000 in air.

As for the trolls and melee, you can kill them with melee it just takes a bit more time and it's not worth trying if they are polarity trolls. Try to make the troll slam his hammer at you and as he does move to his non hammer arm and jump/slide into it when he is finished you should hit it and repeat the process on every part of his body (I start on its non hammer arm then work to hammer, chest, then legs.)

On a side note I have had the trolls regrow their hammers after I destroy them to get one last cheap shot on me before I kill them though i don't know how this is possible.

You can just do an air finisher on a troll to knock off all of their armor. Making them mountable. Makes it easier than trying to kill each part of them with melee.

The targeting system in this game is truly god-awful.

It stays on 2-d x and y axis when you fight normal enemies.

But when a troll or missle appears, it turns into a 3-d crap fest, and the targeting system doesn't seem at all made for it.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||| <-----2.

1. is normal goblins
2. is goblins, with two rockets flying towards you

when the number of enemies that can only be targetted horizontally out-numbers the number of vertical targets, with a horizontal focused targeting system....it's a problem

Something tells me you havent played the game enough yet to get used to it. Once you get to a certain point none of this is the slightest problem

I am aware of that but I like to use melee when I can and it's more fun for me if I beat the thing to death.

defently, GRNDL got so much easier for me when I stopped trying to go shooty when he stood up and stuck to RAWR KILL! I can take him down in about 30sec now.

Hod, Garm, and the World Serpent troll are still a Pain in the *** though.

Yeah I was very angry when they showed all of Helheim when you're going up the elevator and the war is going on down there. I wanted to be on those streets down there going in between building and stuff taking them down. Would've been awesome!!!

This reminded me of FFXII, where you go to a pub, and look at the billboards for new bounties.
I wish the God Of War series was like TH in some ways( my other favorite game)

For me the targeting is really across the board. sometimes it will target exactly how I want and who I want when I switch targets, other times it will just get messy.

I have no real complaint with the long death scene, sure it gets annoying but honestly thats the only penalty to dying? Sounds good to me. Ill take that over xp any day.

So far, I havnt finished it, I love the game, wish there were some more battle cut scenes like show a cut scene with nice graphics of bauldur killing something, maybe I just have yet to get here.

My real only complaint is the camera angles. while most of the time is fine, at other times especially when trying to run behind a troll and hit off his back piece the camera randomly goes frm side to side making it even harder to get behind the troll. Im told switching to iso camera view will help this but have yet to try it. i cant wait until I beat the game, and if I keep farming Ill get live to play co-op (hopefully people will still be playing by then)

If you can't find a game then let the people on here know. They are usually down to farm for a few.
