View Full Version : Dumb question about Dodge%

Ok....
Strength increases base melee damage...
Dexterity increase ballistics damage.....
But Dodge does what exactly? Reduce the chance of being struck by melee, ballistic, or both?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think it means sometimes an attack will go right through you. At least, that's what I would hope it means.

I too am confused about what all these mean! Some are common sense, but some are completely new to RPGs (As far as i am aware) Dexterity for example.
Are they not listed in the Guide?

Might be listed somewhere in the game at a computer terminal, but I haven't found it yet. Might be listed in the Prima Guide, but I don't own it. And also not listed in the game booklet.

The guide leaves out Dodge and things they thought were self explanatory, so I can only think that they thought dodge was self explanatory.
And dexterity does exactly what I thought it would do: Increases BASE Ballistics damage. The opposite of Strength

In this instance I would assume DEX to be + critical% or overall attack speed +
I haven't seen any instances of missing an attack on a mob so I would assume the regular DEX stats for RPG's
would not apply here... *shrug*

Dexterity increases base ballisticdamage? Not Range? Oh-oh... I need to rethink some things.

Well, think of DEX as a synonym for Agility in the case of Too Human. Since in some RPGs AGI increases ranged damage.

There's nothing in the Too Human wikia page on dodge% it either. My best guess is that it increases the length of invincibility (# of frames) during the dodge roll animation.
Dexterity is one of the stats that confused me at first. I would never have guessed that Dexterity% increased base ballistics damage. Dexterity is usually a %to hit kind of stat.

There seems to be a lot of best guesses regarding Dodge, which is why I tried the forum in hopes that someone bought the guide. But if the guide doesn't even have an official explanation .... ?

I just had an epiphany!
Perhaps Improved Dodge reduces the interval between when you can roll again. You know, since naturally there's a 2-3 second delay before you can roll again.

Yeah! like what Krullnar said and your suggestion possibly merged. Technical and Visual!
Possibly hit the nail on the head..

about dex, all it does is increase ur gun dmg, not attack speed or anything else.
as far as roll, i too have no idea.
my guess would a faster roll. was the max% on the rune?
I think Krullnar is correct dodge % increases the length of the roll animation.

Hmmm....that's interesting. I figured it would maybe help you avoid ballistics. Now I need a dodge efficiency modifier so I can have longer rolls in a shorter amount of time. :)
I'll have to test dodge tonight with my various characters to see what's going on.

No, Increase could be right. Think about it if you rolled for a longer time you would be invulnerable longer. So your timing does not have to be so precise. How many times have you rolled just to get up in time for the second set of missles to land on your head.

Sorry for the quick derail and calling you out Speak, but is anyone else's browser loading horribly slow when speak posts multiple times and his signature is repeated a bunch of times in the thread?

Perhaps my bandwidth is limited at work, but yes it crawls when I get to your posts, its sort of funny....I know youve posted in a thread without even seeing your name :)

Seriously man, if it does turn out to be me, PLEASE SAY! It would be a shame because everytime i see it i smile. But worth it.
But i hate web pages loading slow, especially forums! As seen as mine is so speedy don't want others to have less of an experience due to my humor! PM me if it keeps happening!

Yes, Speak... it's happening to me too.
Now back to the Dodge% question: I'm still looking for some official documentation, web link, quote, etc.

Seems like something somone will have to test with a solo enemy.
I have my armor and dodge capped, I could have sworn I went to answer the phone and saw a single mob swinging at me multiple times with nothing being recorded in the damage meter.
No idea if the entire attack was simply being mitigated.
I allways thought strength was sort of like melee penetration vs NPC armor rating.

OK, I have no shame about bumping this topic for a definitive answer. And I'm not above bribing any Devs with Tim Hortons gift certificates. Don't lie and tell me Timmy's won't work - I saw the pictures of the studio online!

OK... I hate to be a bumper, but ... bump.
I'm still looking for an official explanation about Dodge... no theories please.
Any SK dev? Anyone got a quote from the old boards? An article? An interview?
thanks.

I think Krullnar is correct dodge % increases the length of the roll animation.
This is what I thought, and a test of some improved dodge equipment seemed to prove it. Of course, longer rolls = longer invincibility.

I've got 40% dodge and was poisoned. Normally, rolling can avoid (most) of the damage. But I was able to avoid like... nearly all of it. Usually I take a tick or two of damage every 2-3 rolls, but I was going 6-7 and nothing was hitting me. I have no idea if it's faster, longer, or what... but it does... something :)
Or it was lag :P

Rolling stops DOT damage!? Oh crap! I can't remember how many times I was running around looking for containers as my character slowly poisoned or burned or electrocuted to death! I could have been rolling and maybe saving his neck! AAAgh!

Until I get an official explanation it's all speculation .... No seriously, SK are you reading?

I have 40% dodge
My co-op partner does not
Our roll animations and delays between them are exactly the same
Dodge rolling gives you a chance to avoid damage all together whilst in the animation
Sometimes you get hit anyway whilst in the animation
I believe there is a longer period of time during the dodge animation where you are considered invincible when you have this ability equipped. In testing this seems to be the case, as it is much easier to avoid damage with my roll now. Garm is a good place to test this, his spike missiles used to hit and kill me quite often even during dodge rolls, they do not any longer.
So does anyone know for sure what it does yet?

Finally .... here is the description from the Too Human Wiki:
"Increases the speed at which you can dodge or roll." http://toohuman.wikia.com/wiki/Improve_Dodge
Now, this leads to more questions....
* Does that mean the duration of the roll? (eg, how fast out of a roll before I can swing my sword again?)
* Or how long before you can roll again?
