View Full Version : My Opinion

A little bit about me (so you can see where I'm coming from). I've been a Nintendo fan since the SNES (first console I owned Duck Hunt ftw). Games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Tales of Symphonia are in my top 5 list. Recently got a 360 and played COD4 and Halo 3 religiously for a while. Then Too Human demo came out.
Long story short I bought the game. Now I have 136 hours on my main and 2 other level 50 characters. So I've been through the campaign a few times.

Initial impression: Awesome game. Had a LOT of fun going through the campaign, not just the first time, but the all the other times as well. Coop online was a LOT better than I thought it was going to be. I love that level design makes different characters go through the same levels and enemies in different ways.

After playing for a week, my roommate got interested and decided to see what all my time was going into. That's when I realized that this game is not for everyone. I had to walk him through the first mission. I couldn't believe he was dieing so much. It's like the controls were in a different language. And I believe that this is where the game either gets people addicted or makes them walk away and write a bad review to get their anger out.
My opinion on controls: fluid, easy to control. Yes every once in a while I'd accidentally slide into an enemy I was trying to do a long range fierce attack on, but then again my controller's left stick is a little out of wack (thanks COD4's sprint function). However, I can see where others have a problem with this control scheme. For one, gamers don't like not having control over the camera. I understand this concern, but honestly I've had more problems with the camera in games where I had control over it. If anything a good idea for Too Human 2(or whatever it'll be called) should have a option where you can change the control scheme. There are people that just don't get the default and I agree that games should not be made for a certain sort of person that understands how to play it.
Example: My roommate uses a Commando and tries to change targets by "flicking" the right stick in the general direction expecting it to lock on to the target he wants. No matter how many times I've tried to help him try to change his control style he goes back to this one.

Another major part of the game is the loot.
My opinion on the loot: Very well done. I know that a lot of people complain about Elite sets being out performed by Aiser sets, and for those people that's just how they play. One thing I never hear anyone mentioning is that if the Elite sets had Aiser red rune stats they'd be WAY too good. How I look at it,
Elite = good stats and added boneses to skills.
Aiser = Awesome stats but no added bonus.
I think that this is a fair trade. I always favored skills over bonuses though, so for someone else they may see Elites as nothing but useless armor, and that's just how they play.

Too Human is meant to be as customizable as possible. People need to stop thinking that there is a specific way to do things. People need to stop asking for help and find things out on their own. When I figured out that trying to kill GRNDL by luring him through the flames didn't work I felt more accomplished than when I looked up that Phantom Ganon's sword hilt pointed where you had to go to get through the maze in Wind Waker.

If I had to give this game a score out of 10 I'd give it a solid 9. Mainly because it delivered exactly what I'd expected and set up for the next two games wonderfully, but did have a few bugs. (where did the assault goblin go?) Luckily those bugs have not discouraged me from having fun, and in the end that is what playing a game is all about.

Good game Silicon Knights. I look forward to the next two games.
And like I said this is my opinion.
