Roughly quoting a post from the xbox.com forums "The reviews for Too Human are like when a kid gets pushed down by the playground bully and everyone else comes in to kick him while he's down"
Now, on to the review :)
Now, I've logged over 110 hours on a single character in TH and continue to do so, so yes, I suppose I'm biased, but Too Human definitely did not deserve the beating it got from reviews.
While having it's own flaws, Too Human, at it's core, is a hardcore gamers dream.
Controls: Funky at worst, wonderfully fluid and intuitive at best. This is probably the largest learning curve in the game, is just getting it down to where you pull off the move you want to, whenever you want to. After 110 hours I still don't have this perfected. The aiming can be sketchy at first and throughout the game if you're using pistols, but after a time, if you dedicate yourself, they become very easy to grasp, and simple to use. Melee can be sketchy some times, the hardest to pull off is using fierces while in slide range, which can be near impossible without pulling a couple of neat tricks along with it. After some time though, when the controls have been mastered or close to mastered, it's a truly wonderful feeling flying about fluidly and demolishing everything/shooting down hordes of enemies.
Mini-score: 8/10 would be 10/10, but the steep learning curve can hurt it for the casual gamer.
Graphics: While I'm no graphical connoisseur these graphics are definitely atleast up to par with what I'd expect for a game with a rough background. The environments during combat very much give off a post apocalyptic+old school relics feel, depending on the area. Cyber space, is absolutely gorgeous, pure eye candy. Character design, while Baldur's mug does get rather annoying at times, is decent enough to not warrant a complaint.
Mini-score: 7.5/10 above average, but not by tooooo much.
Story: Ahhh, this is a truly enjoyable part of the game. It's a new take on mythology, and I'm rather fond of it, sure there are some points that creative liberty was taken a touch too far(Thor being a blubbering fool) but apart from that, I definitely appreciate the fairly smooth melding between norse mythology and technology. What's even better is the change of the more recent story telling styles, rather than force feeding the player the story, the option is there to just keep up with the skull cracking, or truely take the time and delve into the story, and I absolutely love this aspect.
mini-score: 9.5/10 near perfect for the concept behind the game, only issue is again with casual gamers not being used to having to look for the story and can miss things, ending up bewildered.
Overall: I feel this game is wholely misunderstood, while it may have it's fair share of issues with the ability to get health lacking, the bugs on line, and some other minor issues, with a bit of human understanding, and a bit of creativity and skill, the issues can be completely overlooked/fixed, and the player can enjoy what the game is meant for, fluid asskickery :D
Score. 8.5/10 One of the most addictive and badass games I've played in a long, long time, while having some flaws, they aren't that huge, and don't put a huge hamper on the gameplay.
