I understand the study will benetfit mankind. However I can imagine, the 'brain' start to learn, to understand how to use its robotic form to obtain more nutrition for growth. Since its growth might be hindered by the lab personnel, it will learn the needs to protect its protein form... it evolve. So a 'being' with 99% robotic parts that cannot feel pain. A being which also understand the need to substain its protein/biologoical parts....

Haha, that's a bit dramatic, don't you think? It's a thin slice of rat brain, and nothing to be worried about; after all, wouldn't a full rat brain be much more capable of figuring things out than a thin slice?

Everyone should be preparing to submit to our new robotic overlords... or zombie overlords... You know, it's really impractical to have multiple sets of overlords... Me thinks, they should fight it out, hopefully destroying each other... and leaving a power vaccuum that I can step into! Muh-ha-ha-ha!
