Anyone else think Mick Foley was a god after seeing this?

Twice he fell 10+ feet (once onto hard cement), and still he picked himself up. Not much of a fighter, but one tough son of a *****.

Also, Cactus Jack vs. Triple H (this one is quite possibly even worse):

"Foley is God" is quite literally what a lot of his fans used to put on signs for him at events.

I saw both of those matches on PPV. The first one the cage definitely wasn't supposed to let go. That is why so many people ran into the ring when it happened. The first fall onto the announcer's table was estimated at 18 feet or more. The second one through the cage against HHH was much worse though and the whole crown in the stadium at the event literally started chanting "HOLY S***, HOLY S***" over and over after it happened.

He is definitely the toughest wrestler I have ever seen.

Here is a best of video from some old ECW matches. Got to love when they invite the crowd to throw folding chairs into the ring at the people they just beat. He lost an ear in a match in Germany early in his career getting his head stuck between the ropes, that is in this video too. That is why the Mankind mask has a completely solid side with no ear hole. Barbed wire ropes, flaming barbed wire bats, explosions, nothing was off limits.

(The first song in the background is actually called The Legend of Cactus Jack)

One of the crazy things he used to do is bring bags of tacks to the ring. Around 1:55 in this video you can see some more of that (happened to Ric Flair towards the end of the vid above). I remember seeing him stand up after that match and he literally had hundreds and hundreds of tacks stuck into him everywhere. That same match he got his tooth knocked out and it lodged in his nostril and at the end of the match he was laying in the corner with tacks all stuck in him, bleeding from the mouth with a tooth up his nose, smiling.

He was also amazing in promos and interviews as all of his characters but stuff like this 2 part one I found were what made him stand out. The story about him hitchhiking to Madison Square Garden as a teenager to watch wrestling is true it was in his first book as well, as is a lot of the stuff after that point even though he talks about it in character.

Here is just an example of his crazy Mankind interviews.

Castrum, your should watch the "Beyond the Mat" documentary, it will give you a whole new respect for Mick Foley. He takes about a million chair shots to the head in front of his family then as he wanders backstage to get checked out he cheers up his kids and proceeds to tell jokes while getting the gigantic gash in his head stitched up. I think it is broken into parts on youtube as well.

Also, here is his first book.

Funny story surrounding the PPV where (My favorite) the Undertaker threw Mankind off the cell... However inappropriate for this site ;)

But I remember being really worried.. I thought he was dead. Then he went back up... Wow.. "Intestinal fortitude"... yep he's got a tonne.

Two of my all time fave's of Wrestling..

Look: I'm not making fun of wrestling!

While we're on the topic of Mick Foley (and those he has faced), Triple H is so fake. He wins like every damn Hell In A Cell he's in, and the league makes him out to be some kind of Ubermensch while he's basically comparable with any other wrestler his size. Not to mention the fact that the Pedigree is one of the lamest finishing moves ever.

Oh, and Ric Flair is horribly overrated.

I used to watch wrestling, before I found out it's staged and/or I turned 10 and realized it's bad.

Anyways, I always loved Stone Cold and the Rock.

Oh, I know it's like 90% fake, but it's still entertaining (see OP).

Certainly more so than the gay grapplefests I've seen in UFC.

God, boxing. Even worse than UFC.

1 fighting style, extremely-long and dull matches (with an occasional punching streak), and a bunch of guys who you'll barely remember a week from now.

RE. HHH.. well what do you expect when he's married to Stephanie.. I find it very lame too, I've never thought he was that good or entertaining.

Besides.. the Undertaker rules everything... :D

As did Kane, until he became a flabby retard.

EDIT:

Just watched the Randy Orton/Undertaker HIAC match. Amazing.

WWE is so terrible in every way. :(

TNA is where the real talent is shown.

I watched both of those live when I was in like 6th grade WWF was the best. WWE isn't as good as them days.

The undertaker works out in the same gym my wife goes to.
I told this to Shadow and he was freaking out! he wanted me to go and ask him for an autograph!lol not gonna happen.:)

Not one single person bothers him when he is there apparently, so that's a good thing.

When i was in grammar school a kid in my year's father owned the gym chain that the WWF used to use since the company was/is based in CT and there were many more events here and in new york when it wasn't such a worldwide thing. Hogan, Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, all those guys used to go to his gyms. That was probably late 80s and very early 90s. They were on the other side of the state too far away for me to go to but he was always coming in with pictures of himself with all the wrestlers at the gym.

That's pretty cool.
I used to watch a lot of wrestling when I was young.
Back in the 80's in PR, wrestling was very brutal, all kinds of wrestlers were all scarred on there foreheads and pretty beat up.

My favorite wrestler back then was Carlos Colon Sr.
He both won and lost against Rick flair back in the 80's.
He has two sons that were wrestlers too.

I love those matches, saw them both on PPV and I've watched them several times since. Foley is not only the toughest SoB alive, he's one of the greatest entertainers who ever set foot in a wrestling ring.

But Undertaker... he's just the greatest thing to ever happen to pro wrestling. Anybody see the first Inferno match againt Kane?

I admit, I'm a HHH fan, or I was when I was watching regular. He's good, no doubt, but he's overdone because he's part of the family. He was always at his best, IMO, when he was with Degeneration-X or paired with Shawn Michaels.

Oh, I know it's like 90% fake

I always preferred the term "scripted." Sure, the outcomes are predetermined but it's hard for me to look at some of that stuff (Foley vs. Taker is a great example) and call it "fake."

I refuse to believe you just said this because I like you.. lol

I will admit, WWE over the past few years has definitely taken a backseat to TNA as far as Physical action goes.. Those guys are doing way more wrestling than talking and are still doing the high flying things that Vince won't let WWE stars do anymore (because of Jeff hardy of course).. It's just the 80's cheese factor of TNA that keeps me away.

CannabisPrime

What I like about TNA is the talent of the wrestlers. WWE has just become a ridiculous soap opera in the past years.

The '80s cheese factor of TNA is intentional. It's not taking itself seriously, that's what makes it so great.

Dude, come on, Sharkboy?!

Shaynard
07-17-2009, 01:27 PM
lol.. fair enough.. I can totally understand enjoying it for that reason.. I agree with the level of talent. WWE forgot that the wrestlers must still be able to wrestle, not just look good, and act well.

CannabisPrime
07-17-2009, 01:31 PM
It's probably why so many WWE wrestlers that actually have talent, as opposed to just looking like they do, jump ship to go over to TNA.

Shaynard
07-17-2009, 01:40 PM
Yes I do think so... That and wanting to be able to show their physical ability. After all the injuries and deaths in the WWE, Vince has threatened to fire anyone who does anything that 'risky".. The talent must ask permission to say "jump off a ladder"...

That multi sided ring TNA has is also really a cool innovation.

I haven't liked the WWF/WWE since around the first days Batista showed up. I watched it long enough to see him finally end Triple H's reign as Head Asshat and that was enough for me.

FWIW, even though pro wrestling is "scripted" I do recognize that those guys are physically talented and incredibly durable, given some of the beatings they take.

That said, I enjoy what little MMA I've seen b/c it's real fighting with real people.

Well yeah, it was proven by Lesnar walking into UFC and just dominating over every contender. ;)
