well when watching my favorite tv show they said that spam emails were adding up on green house gases it was equal to about 3 million car green house gases so do you really think spam could cause this? i find it hard to believe....whats your thoughts on this?

Was it a comedy or something on the History Channel? It is hard to gauge the comment if you don't know the source. If it was a quote from South Park or Robot Chicken it would carry a bit less weight than a National Geographic Channel environmental special or something like that
I guess due to power consumed it could add up, the more computers have to run the more fossil fuel is used to power them.

Yeah, that is how I figured it would work. All the computer time draws power, power that is attained from burning coal for the most part.

it shocked me though how it can add up to so much....can't wait to see a chain email saying that spam emails kill the earth :)

I don't know how it works exactly so I could be completely wrong, but I imagine a computer that is constantly sending emails will use more energy than a computer sitting idle. It might be very minuet differences per second or even minute, but it would add up over time. Really though, I guarantee people leaving the lights on in a room even if you are only leaving for a second wastes more energy per day than spam emails waste per week or possibly even per month. If people would just turn off the lights when they left a room, and only turned them on when it was absolutely necessary to see it would be amazing how much energy we would save. I guarantee the average persons electricity bill would be at least $10 less per month.
