First off I will say I am not a big punisher fan. I never read his solo books and mainly know him from guest appearances in Spider-man and such.
But I just saw this on demand this weekend and it was like the perfect punisher movie. High body count. Over the top kills and lots of guns. There was enough plot and character development without it getting into the corny cliche aspect. It had a more serious gritty tone. But not too dark. A thump up.
Is Jigsaw a "real" Punisher arch enemy?

I had actually been putting off watching the movie because. Didn't thnk it would be any good. But I might just have to finally rent it.
Yes jigsaw is a character in the comics. He is actually one of the few "reaccuring" bad guys in the series since he usually brutally murders the person by the end of the comic.

There is lots of blood splatter everywhere. It gives enough info that a person not familiar with the characters can put it together and the plot is pretty good.
But it really is all about the kills and there are plenty to keep you interested. Many heads explode and limbs fly off.

One of my closest friends is a die hard comic book fan and he HATED the first Punisher movie. He came away from this one pleased, which is nearly impossible for him in a comic book based movie.

What the heck? You actually think this was a good movie? It was directed by a kickboxer with no legitamate videography background last I checked(and that was just after I was the trailer with the "sometimes I wish I could get my hands on God" horsecrap line). I wrote it off right then and there.
You watched it and don't think it was cheesy?! Well now I'm actually going to have to waste my money and see this even when I know it to be a rotten egg. Just so I know for sure I'm not just judging a bad book by a really horrible cover.
I really don't care how much the previous Punisher movie strayed from the comics, it had depth, drama, and action. This movie looked to be only action. If that's how you want to judge it 'good' ok, but don't say it's better than the previous one solely on that fact.

I did enjoy the first one. Saw it free on demand earlier in the year. I'll have to see if this is free as well. I'll check it out if it is. This would be a good movie to watch with some of the guys and some beers

Magnum is right on all counts. I read Punisher MAX and not much else, and that was what it was SUPPOSED to be using as source material.
Since I commented in SonofAsgard's thread a while ago I have actually been able to stomach the movie in it's entirety, and I still can't believe it. The Dolph Lundgren Punisher had more oomph. At least he didn't walk around looking like he was gonna cry the whole time.
And Frank in seminary? Please. He was, and always will be, a soldier. A killing tool. The movie spend far too much time trying to humanize him. He isn't human. He is a bloody vengeance machine. Change that, ruin everything.
Add to that the film looking stupid (Batman and Robin amounts of neon everywhere) and RAW cheese (shooting Maginty's goons midair with a rocket launcher? Spinning upside down from a chandelier like 3000 Miles to Graceland? Shameful) and the film had actually managed to ruin my night by the time it ended.
And Jigsaw and his brother were wierd and annoying, and seemingly had more screen time than Castle.

HYah the first movie was deff a pretty good view. I think the story line was good and how castle got back at the cartel, but for real as soon as i saw the trialer for warzone i went nuts. I cant stand it whn they make a movie and change the main charactor to a differnet person, god thts a kick in the face. And the story line looks way beyond stupid. "Warzone" lol WAT!!!!! They go from nice well played out story line to retardedly over bloody stupid killing movie. If i were a movie producer man id make bank giving the ppl wat they want.

It was a new person because Thomas Jane got the script for the new movie and refused it. He left the project citing "creative differences". In my opinion, that was probably a smart move.

The newest Punisher flick makes up for the John Travolta/Thomas Jane film. Not to mention in my opinion I think Ray Stevenson is a better actor, he's just not well established. He was great in Rome as Titus Pullo.

He is a good actor, he just got saddled with some extra crummy material.

I enjoyed Punisher 2099, now that was a walking source of vengeance. In one comic he even roasts a technomage inside his forcefield using a plasma gun.

I didn't read that one, but I liked when he survived WWIII in "The End" and set about on a trek to destroy the last surviving remnants of humanity.

I think this was a great movie, lots of laughs in the room.
My favorite part was when he was fighting the black gang. The grenade launcher through the door part was hilarious.
