Good story...

I understand microsoft is better off with PG-13 media and stuff but wouldnt it be nice for some of us older guys to be able to get on there with stuff tailored to our age group as well?

Seems they could do it and have it in the registration... it would only show on your xbox if you were 18 and over. Maybe thats a little much but the stuff they have on there right now is dumb and boring.

Ya, I saw this. Makes sense to me.

Funny part about MS's overt censorship is this. Microsoft want to appeal to a mass audience, yet they continually limit themselves to a niche audience of 'gamers' who don't mind PG-13 style stylings.

If MS wants to see the bigtime, I think they need to open their platform to a general, open audience. Think Outsied the box. Open up freedom of speech. Support games as art, and back people's rights to express themselves in an artistic medium, and don't force things to be dumbed down, instead of buckling to the ignorant whining of a tight-@ssed right wing conservative mindset.

At the same time, open the platform up to freedom of religion as well.

Anyways, thats just my 2c. The system has a parental lock system, use it.

Yes... thats a more thought out way of basically what I wanted to say. Thanks!

I personally hate anyone who agrees with the current rating system.. Games get the short end of the stick every time. Halo for example, never noticed any swears, no sex, no drugs, no alcohol, yet it's rated M.

Then when Tropic Thunder was first in theaters (at least here) it was advertised as PG-13. But when it played it said 14-A, not that big of a deal. That movie had more gore than halo, missing limbs(although fake looking) swearing, drug abuse, sex references in every other sentence, some iffy jokes, and actual people being shot. On DVD/Blu-Ray the rating was changed to R.

If a game did that, there would've been a huge outcry, it could've possibly been banned. The people that make up ESRB and whichever rating system are just a bunch of stuck up old fools who can't deal with change. The worst part is all the parents and non-gamers believe all the crap they say about stuff.

I bought cod4 and my aunt had a fit with my mom over allowing me to play it.. I was 15, had a summer job and worked to make enough money to buy my own xbox and pay for live, yet she wanted me to play some lame wii game or something..

IMO If it's not porn, or over the top brutality like say Saw, I see nothing wrong with allowing any one to play it. Chances are the really young kids who get their hands on it, don't really understand it completely anyways.

To clarify, 14A is the Canadian equivalent of the US' PG13.

This is true, nonetheless. The ESRB is ridiculous. So is Microsoft in this case. Ease up, and let people choose what they want to see.

I legit saw a lady try to buy her 5 year old son Gears 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 last week at eB Games. She got to the counter, and the guy asked her if she knew what the games were about. Her child had asked for them, and she just complied without checking the back/the ratings.

I laughed at her, to be honest. She went on a rant after she found out, saying that the names are, "so innocent, you would never think they are bad".

To be honest, I don't think she even looked at the cases.

She just wanted to please her kid, and get him out of her hair.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even own an Xbox. Probably have a Wii...

Heh, and who ends up getting the blame for underage kids playing violent games? the game, not the parent. brilliant. I'm suprised Michael Moore hasnt made a movie against video games yet... :o

Add to that the word gears doesn't help to make it an innocent title either. I can't really think of a game that has a less innocent name that isn't a porn game.
