View Full Version : Batman: A Superhero or a Fraud?

Batman, even though he can kick a**, is he really a superhero? He is a normal person with a bunch of gadgets. As opposed to Superman who has actual powers and doesnt need anything special to fight crime. Iron Man is an exception cause he is so God damn cool. If anyone cares to post your opinion against or agreeing with my accusation of Batman not being a superhero, please do.
Thanx,

I think Batman is a super hero in a sense.
I say this because he has an incredible ability to rigidly stick to his one rule of not killing anyone. Some might say that it is his weakness yet it shows how one mans dream (yes a very rich man) can lead oneself to fight crime and yet stick to his morals.

What he is, is a human with an unfaltering vision and extensive combat training. He has no 'super powers', but what he does have is a super huge helping of will power.
He has his gadgets, and they are a huge part of the strategy, but I would not consider him a super hero. He is a hero at the least, and that goes without saying.
Ironman is the same story as Batman, just more money (?) and an amazing exoskeleton.

Batman is totally a superhero. Superman, on the other hand, is totally a fraud (http://www.nuklearpower.com/2009/03/17/episode-1106-from-a-certain-point-of-view/).

Batman would be nothing without Alfred. Now there's a superhero.

He's Sherlock Holmes with a bat theme, and played by Iron Man.

Superman isn't a super hero..He can't be hurt, how hard is it to fight crime when your bullet proof and the only way you can be hurt is if they manage to find a piece of your planet that fell to earth.
Batman has the chance of dying every time he puts on the cape and mask.
Which is more heroic.

Ironman is the same story as Batman, just more money (?) and an amazing exoskeleton.
Except with super intelligence. Stark is a genius raised to the 1,000,000 power. Seriously.
Both are awesome, though.

Batman is essentially the Punisher in DC form (and without the death penalty applied) and the Punisher has been known to kill every character in the Marvel universe.*
*though it might not be canon :D

Why would one even ask a question?
Batman is a SUPERHERO bar-none.

Their is a big diffrence in "Superhero" and "Crimefighter"! Batman is no "superhero" or "Fraud", he's a "Crimefighter" working to keep the streets of Gotham safe at night!:p
What do you define superhero as batosai?
batosai
04-28-2009, 05:58 AM
Some kind of "Power" to make you "Super" "HUMAN" an use it for the benifit of mankind.(or something along those lines):p
So you need to be either an experiment, mutant, or alien?
batosai
04-28-2009, 06:27 AM
How many "superhero's" can you think of that were just "Human"? So I would say yup, yup!
The Punisher, Batman, Maverick, Bishop, Ironman.
Just off the top of my head.
batosai
04-28-2009, 06:45 AM
Again not "super" only legandary "crimefighters" without "superpowers"!:p
My definition of superhero is not the same as yours. ;)
batosai
04-28-2009, 06:53 AM
Your right, its not.:( Those are all "Suburbanhero's" instead of "superhero's" IMO. But I will give them the credit of saving the day for someone. Ironman don't count he's an Avenger!(even though he's in the same boat as Batman) I think the only way to be a hero and still be completly human is to be......a Fireman, lol.

Batman is not just ordinary crimefighter. He's saved the world plenty of times over. While most of his adventures are in Gotham City, he's been an essential part of the Justice League.
The term hero/superhero has it's own definitions for everyone.

So yes, a quibble over semantics.
Besides, Batman will kick your a**. But if you're going to split hairs, Iron Man belongs in a different category, due to the suit, which effectively gives him super-powers.
I don't remember all the categories, but back when I was a kid playing the Marvel RPG (or more recently in a game like City of Heroes), your characters were allocated to a specific origin - like mutant (Wolverine), "accident" / science (Spider-Man), natural (Batman), mechanical / techology (Iron Man). Despite Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne both being normal humans without "powers," the Iron Man suit effectively gives Stark those powers, so that's not really a direct comparison.

Didn't Batman beat the Hulk in a crossover?
How is that not super!?

Because the Hulk felt bad for the wimpy rodant with wings.

It was Superman vs The Hulk, the hulk lost.
If anyone doubts Batman, read JLA: The Tower of Babel.
He basically has backup plans to take down EVERY member of the JLA if they ever go rogue.

Aren't mutants technically humans with altered genes?

Have you read When Kingdom Come?
Bruce Wayne is portrayed in that with a Metal Exoskeleton which is literally holding him together, due to all the beatings over the years.
