View Full Version : Better Than MGS1 On PS1?

Just thought I would pose the question.

I personally haven't played either of them (well, ok, MGS1 for about 5 minutes), though I've heard there's some argument as to which version is superior.

First, you must play it!

Second, the Twin Snakes looks amazing. Since the story is intact you might be better off playing it so you don't get hurt by the PS1 graphics.

Another thing is Twin Snakes has a First Person Aiming mode (just think of the PS2 ones where you pull out your gun and can aim), which the original did not have. This might make it easier. I personally welcomed the addition because it makes the controls more accessible to me. I rented this game and wish I bought it. It is also on my list of games to add to my collection.

Unless you are a die hard MGS purist, this version is perfect for ya =)

I would have to say so. Twin Snakes beats the pants off of the PS1 MGS.

Show some respect, Wiigin.

Graphically there is no doubt. The enhanced first person view alters the gameplay considerably. Style is a rather siginificant question, though. You may not like the "cool" altered cutscenes of Twin Snakes.

Ultimately it's probably tough to go back to a early 3D game (no such problems with 2D games). If you have already played it that problem may be alleviated. I don't think the story has been altered significantly so for people who haven't played either one I would generally suggest playing Twin Snakes first.

I would, if the PS1 was worth the plastic it takes to mold one.

There, it's getting even worse. What's the matter with you?

P.S.:

Seems the combination of Wii and gin is just too alluring.

I'm apparently very opinionated. :D

You haven't gone up against Psycho Mantis...... :o I think I'm going to faint, that has to be one of the true gaming gold moments in the history of video games.

Having played both versions, I would say Twin Snakes is better due to the visuals and fps mode etc.

The Ps1 was a crowning achievement among gaming consoles of its time, and gave a home to a great number of true masterpieces.

Among them, MGS. I played the hell out of it, to the point where I couldn't even get into it when I would try.

Twin Snakes comes along, and I beat it a moderate number of times, and my exposure to MGS causes me to be slightly surprised by Twin Snakes (from a visual and gameplay aspect) each time I play it.

Which is superior? You can't really fault the original for anything for the time period that it came out in, but Twin Snakes came out years later, so some of the hokey lines didn't work anymore, and the Ryuhei Kitamura cutscenes were a love-them-or-hate-them affair (Hate: Snake riding a missile. Love: Anything with Grey Fox).

control wise i'd give it to twin snakes. difficulty wise i'd give it to MGS. it was a more challenging version(the original). but then again i found MGS 2 hella easy compared to Splintercell, so who am i to judge... lol

Depends. Sons of Liberty without using lethal force?

MGS is my all time favourite game, and well TS was an updated version so I loved it even more.

I wish more game companies would re-master some of the classics.

For those interested, MSG1 was put on PSN for 10$.

Still way easier (on default settings) than the first Splinter Cell. The estate level was stupid hard.

To be honest, I didn't have particular problems with any Splinter Cell game, I stopped with the 2nd one, though. The third game for PS2 looked horribly, aesthetically and I have yet to play the Xbox version (while I don't care about the series anymore, otherwise).

It's a matter of one's personal style of playing games, I would say.
