Apparently without Brett Favre to talk about he just couldn't go on. :D
I am conflicted about this. At times he was great, he saw and commented on the game in a way few others do. Other times he was like a rambling mental patient. I will miss the good analysis part, but not the pointing out the obvious stuff, and the "BOOM".

Haha, someone else has been enjoying Frank Caliendo's comedy eh? ;)
(I still think his GW Bush impression is by far his best, but the Madden one is great too, and seems to be his trademark.)

That was hilarious.
But yea, Madden has been around for a long time. He's established himself, in my opinion, as the 'voice' of football.
Not a huge football fan, but when I think football commentating, I hear the voice of John Madden :p

Well, you can kiss Frank Caliendo's career (can you call it that?) goodbye.

He isn't retiring from putting his name and voice on the games I would assume. He makes a mint off that game and the time involved is pretty low for him. They most likely have him sit down for an afternoon in front of a table of food and a microphone with a list of stuff to say. Then they mix that stuff with the stuff that is reusable from past years and put it in the game.

He is the voice of football, but he got so annoying many times. Every time the Colts were on national TV I always had to mute my TV, and turn on the local radio it was so much more enjoyable then Madden, and his crew.

I used to do that with baseball all the time but the timed delay that got instituted because of "Nipplegate, the Janet Jackson saga" messes that up. I hate listening to Jerry Remy on NESN so I used to listen to the game on the radio. My grandfather always listened to the sport on the radio rather than the TV. He used to say "they have to describe the game because noone can see it, TV guys just BS their way along and talk about the game sometimes"
