The Mindsight

This is a band that some of you may or may not be aware of, but I thought I'd take a few minutes out of my day to say that the band is the sh!t :D

When I first heard there smooth jamaican melody..... just kidding :p there a metal band.

Also just so we're clear this is not the mindsight from chicago...they suck. This is the mindsight from yee ole America jr.

this site is NOT looked after and hasn't been for a while.. there are a few blogs but the pic's are at least two years old.. :rolleyes:

The reason being we are recording a second CD or rather and EP in a big ol' fancy Pro Studio and plan a massive attack on the new world of digital music where selling CD's is basically not going to happen and an adjustment must be made.

That said go buy our CD on iTunes or from Indie Pool .. ha


I'm not sure what catagory to place us in as the lines are all extremely blured.. So some "influences are" Tool (ummm yeah) NIN, Nirvana, Pantera, Def Tones, System of a Down... Some comments made are we sound like... Linkin Park (duel vocalists without rap) Disturbed, Three Days Grace..

I say we sound like the Jonus Brother's mixed with Glory Metal and Justin Timberlake. You can decide for yourself.

I am a vocalist in the band... There are two.. Neither does one thing (sing/scream) we both do both. I play a little live guitar but did not record anything besides vocals for this particular band.

We released this CD (gathering Mindsight) last year but it took three years to record so those songs are very "old" to me.. I am very excited to release the new ones.

Edge 102 and Rock95 both play our CD regularily... Edge 102 did a "Indie rock Showcase" on us, attended our show and played our CD all night.... was pretty sweet.. I was in a variety store that night listening to the guy on the radio talk about me as if he, or anyone else, knew who I was... lol

ahhh.. I thought I was losing my mind for a second there.

I have been surprized with the LP comparisons because we don't rap, but I hear the hip-hop like "bounce' some of our songs have as being the reason. I am amazed at how many true hip-hop fans really like our band.. That must be why. You wouldn't have been the only one to say that, so there must be some truth to it.

Our original name was Alterspective... it was determined that was too difficult for most to remember.. I disagree but oh well... We landed on Mindsight after a full year of fighting over the name.. We knew about the other band and figured it would serve as motivation to do better than they do,.. lol

lol.. Music is all about personal taste, so it's hard to say "better" or "worse". They are very good at what they do.. I just don't like what they do. :D


We found out about them while trying to buy our website.. mindsight.com is not a band address, which obviously is the one we wanted. We ended up with musicofmindsight.com. then it was on myspace when we tried for /mindsight, that we discovered them.. the CD art was already finalized, but we hadn't pressed the CD.. We said "f-it" and pressed the CD anyways.

Pretty exciting for Mindsight..

Our bassist was recently in LA for a couple weeks.. He went to make some contacts for our band, and ended up meeting someone inspirational to say the least...

He met and placed a Mindsight CD in the hands of Danny Carey.. The drummer from TOOL...

Danny asked when he could come see us live, and offered some great advice..and apparently was a very friendly guy.

We also got a contact at the Wiskey which is obviously a legendary venue in LA..and have the option of playing there in the next year.. as well as a few other places...

The CD has been delayed because we brought in a well respected Producer to mix a song to see if what he came out with was better than ours... Hoping to be able to go the easier way of having someone else mix the CD.. Turns out we prefer our own mix, however the new vision of our songs definitely gave us some valuable ideas and brought our attention to a couple "problems".

We have now taken every possible step towards having the CD sound exactly how we want.. MAYBE we'll actually have it finished someday :rolleyes:

In the meantime I have personally been singing for a new "band".. It is called Unraveling.. That CD should be done in the next month.

Not that band... This one is local, not in Cali.. It's not actually a "band", you've heard an instrumental.. A lot of piano and orchestral stuff.. Some it sort of electronically abrasive like NIN. I am doing the majority of the vocals with 'guests' on three songs, like the other vocalist in Mindsight, and a certain BA female vocalist we know ;) But it's not a "band" at this point, as the music and vocals have been written by myself and one other, guy.

No selling out here.. I thought better of that whole chestnut.

hey guys.. I know it's been a while but I finally have something to report. I have personal been busy dealing with other aspects of my life and so, was a little detatched from the band for a while. but...

We're done the CD.. It is currently being pressed. the tentative release date was Nov 19th, however we have just received word that may be delayed due to a "backup" at the CD pressing plant.

The EP is called: The Mindsight:: Incarnate

Due to both PLOW and Nicholbert "subscribing" to the Mindsight's youtube channel, I realised it was already up and has two videos loaded. (We have made several more which are "coming soon")

nope, if it's available on what you'd usually use, use that. :) Honestly I don't know many different places online to buy music, as I still buy CD's from the store. (although I often have to order them in these days :( ) iTunes definitely has it, there is also a "cart" on our website which has other options. :)

Shaynard, how have things been going with the band?

I picked up the EP from itunes, and finally got to check out the final song, it's great. The production on the album really is amazing, and you guys did an incredible job writing the songs themselves. Excellent lyrics, deep, heavy as sh!t sound at just the right times, with some amazing screams and melodies that really hit the right spot. It's probably one of my favourite albums this year, if not my fav.

Hope you guys reach a good level of success with this, since you deserve it. I imagine that if you just tour your asses off, and get picked up by some bands to do an opening gig tour here and there, you guys could really do well.

Anyways, hope you come out to Vancouver, would love to hang out, and check you out live.

We are getting ready to start playing shows again, with the first being May 28th at the El Mocambo in Toronto.

We've been working with a Live Stage Production company, attempting to bring something unique to the stage. The company we are working with, is the same company that puts together Tool's live stage sets, pyro, lights ect. Pretty exciting. The hope is to do a few BIG shows this fall/winter to large audiences, in hopes of skipping the two years of touring to smaller crowd. By showing other bands we are ready to open for them on the large stages.

We will be uploading new material to our youtube channel as well. (besides silly videos of me dancing) in the next month.

For those interested, the songs are finally on iTunes as well. We do have all but one track on the EP, up on youtube for easy listening.

Thanks again for the warm comments, we are very happy at the reception this recording is getting from fans, and new listeners. I think we managed to find "our sound" with this EP. (ecspecially on the track "Body Suit")

Cool man. So, when you say do a few big shows ;), I assume that means you guys already have a stable and big enough following in that area to possibly fill some decent sized venues. I have no idea of course, since I've never been to any of your shows. I would love to though.

Regarding the stage stuff, that is awesome. Glad to see you're pulling out the stops.

But ya, I'd definitely agree about you guys finding finding your sound or your voice. Body suit is an amazing song, for sure. I was just thinking the other day on how great of a closing song it is. It leaves you with a great impression.

I see what you're saying. Sounds like a great plan, and I wish you guys luck in getting some big shows, I have no doubt it will pan out. I assume you've probably had some good opening gigs before? One day, it would be amazing to see you open for Tool or APC as well ;).
