The commercial superselling machine billy mays will soon add tv star to his resumé.
Discovery's new show pitchmen will star billy mays and will follow the creation of a two
Minute commercial from beginning to end.
I don't think the show has a set airdate yet but if someone finds it feel free to post it.
Do you guys think this will be a good show? Or like me do you miss the old discovery channel, you know, the one that actuallyhad educational stuff on it.

I lost most of my respect for the discovery channel when they aired a documentary claiming Nolan Bushnell invented the first gaming system. I still watch channels that are part of the discovery network but it's limited to Military/Science Channels now.
Weapon Masters, Commanders At War, and Brink to name a few good shows.

I miss the old discovery channel. The recent planet earth series was pretty cool, but a lot of what made it cool was how beautiful it was in HD.
I personally hold a grudge against the Discovery channel for keeping Man vs Wild on the air. It's bad enough the show is fake, but they tried to pass it off as real to begin with. That's an insult to my intelligence! ;)

I suppose it could be interesting, especially if you get to see the juxtaposition of his personality when he is "off" versus when camera is rolling.

I don't know I saw a commercial where he was selling life insurance a few minutes ago and I could barely stand to watch the whole thing I'm not sure if I can sit through 30 min of him

What's next, a special on his little apprentice you see doing more commercials now?
"It's from the germans, you know they make good stuff."

I think the two of them are actually bitter rivals. You know how cut throat the selling randomstuff after 1:00am game is :p. It would be funny as hell to see them in a shouting match though.
Mays does actually have a cohost that's supposed to be an ad guru too. But I've never seen him before

Lol, a prank war using the various products they pitch.
I could see Mays putting hercules hooks in the guys crawlspaces, and hanging dead fish from them.

I would love to see a celebritydeathmatch with the two of them. That would be sweet

It definitely sucks that Man vs Wild is on still but Les Stroud stopped doing Survivorman which was the real thing that MvW bit off with a bunch of crew members, guides, and cameramen with him. Survivormman was far superior.
The pitchman show I will definitely skip. I think a lot of shows on Discovery have run their lifeline. Mythbusters is just plain out of good stuff to test now. Deadliest Catch isn't the same after seening a couple seasons and is less intense now that there is actually no race aspect to the season with the Govt. quota program that went into effect.
It seems the TV "flavors of the season" right now is shows about people cutting trees down and driving on ice. There are a couple shows like "Ice Road Truckers" and a mess of "Axemen/Heliloggers" styles ones as well.
Blue Planet and Planet Earth are both amazing in HD and worth a watch though if you haven't seen them yet.

you know, i actually finally sat down and watched an episode of this the other day. i gotta say, it wasn't near as bad as i expected it to be. i don't know if they'll be able to keep the show going, but i think i'll give it a chance.

I've only seen a few episodes but from what I've seen it looks like it has potential as long as there are good inventions to market.
I saw one of the commercials they did on the TV the other day and I must say it was kinda cool knowing the back story that went with the commercial.
Its also nice to know that Billy makes sure the products he is promoting actually works, unlike some of the pitchmen out there who just do it for the money.

he makes sure the products work because its his company that promotes them. he's just as "out for the money" as the next guy. if one of those inventions screwed up and killed someone who do you think they'd come after.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it this morning. The ESPN360 commercials are hilarious, and he makes them work.
