Anyone else here just simply LOVE these books? I can't wait for the loooong awaited new one. If you've never read em, pick up the 1st one (A Game of Thrones). It's awesome and will suck you into the world of the seven kingdoms. :)
The Hedge Knight is a side story from the series that has been put into comic book form. It's a good read if you're a big fan of the books. I'd like to see a lot more short stories from Ice and Fire, there's so much back story that could be touched on.

This is a great series man! I read the first two books a while ago. I have book 3 but between a lack of time, gaming, and my ADD, I'm having a hard time getting into it, but I'm gonna get it done one day. HBO bought the television rights, and are making the 1st book into a series - it should be pretty good!

Yeah I've been reading about the TV series. I'll order HBO just to watch it, lol.
The producers of the show have been asking fans of the series about what actors would fit the characters. They've got a website set up for it, but I can't remember what it is. :(

I didn't know about a TV series... interesting. I hope they don't butcher the story.
Really liked the novels so far, it's really cool to read a 'fantasy' series that is so much more realistic than most. I like the focus on politics, intrigue, and power rather than the traditional 'disaffected boy discovers grand destiny, saves world' scenario.
However, I have to admit that the books were so bleak and humorless at times that I had trouble wanting to read them. I respected his willingness to kill off main characters, but at one point I remember feeling like Martin was pushing it to the point of a gimmick and being irritated as he just seemed to be playing with his readers' heads.
Anyway, great series overall, hopefully he'll finish it one day. :)

HBO has a pretty good track record with their tv series: The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Carnivale, True Blood, and Rome just to name a few. So I think they might get it right. Plus they're treating each book as a complete season so that should avoid story butchering.

Bioware actually references this series as one of the talking points of their high fantasy/low fantasy debate regarding Dragon Age: Origins in a kotaku article.

I saw that too, but the Kotaku story reveals a HUGE plot twist in the first book. I'm glad I didn't have that knowledge before I actually read the book, but that's how the internet is.
