Is anyone else excited for this flick? Maybe since it takes place in my homestate I'm a little biased, but it looks awesome. I remember, a few years back, I was watching this movie/special on Discovery called "A Haunting in Connecticut" (clever, right?) and it was the same story. It creeped me the hell out, so I can't wait to see it on the big screen.
I am concerned, though, that they'll take far too many liberties with the story and have it be "loosely based on actual events".

"loosely based on actual events".
That's normally what "Based on a True Story" means unfortunately.
Not sure I'm up for this one. Sort of looks too much like Stigmata's sequel or something like it. Wasn't really excited about that one either.

I saw the Discovery channel one recently as well. It was pretty good but mostly creepy because of the voice over guy's voice for me. He is the same guy from the shot "A Haunting". I will probably check it out as well, if not only for the CT aspect of it just to see what they did with the story.

I just saw the commercial.
In order for me to even think about seeing this moving it needs to be rated R.
Goes for all other PG-13 horror movies.
Maybe worth a rent at most.
On the other hand not all 'R' horror movies are that good.

Just a thought and off topic, but what are some other 'based on true events' horror movies?

The Strangers is a recent one that was based on actual events. It was pretty good.

Amityville Horror is supposed to be based on true events, though I believe the owners of the house have come out and said it was a scam. Lots of people still think it's based on true events..
Other than that, I think Alien was based on a true story.. :D

I read this book years and years ago and was interested later in the truth of it, but it's basically an undecipherable mess. There's a lot of contention between the couple who lived there at the time of the supposed events and an attorney who supposedly worked up what he called a "hoax" with them. There's a ton of conflicting claims from supposed researchers and self-styled paranormal experts.
What makes it feel like a hoax to me are the large number of details in the book that were flat wrong or never verified - hard facts like dates, physical features of the house, supposed damage to the house that was proven false, etc.
It makes sense that the couple who had this book written and movie made about them would want to continue insisting that it all really happened. The book was marketed as a true story, that was its big appeal. It's harder to establish what gain anyone would have from debunking the story.

Apparently people are already stopping by the house that the movie is about. Obviously this has the new owners none too happy. The story was in my local paper today. I found it on yahoo though since it is an AP story.
I do not envy those people on Halloween of this year (or any year) if they release the DVD around then. She comments on that in the article. There will be TONS of people "stopping by".

Yep the good old Bulletin. Certainly not the best paper by any means but out of habit in the morning I still have to go to it. :)

Fatal Frame on the PS2 claimed to be based on a true story, but I think it's bogus.
