That is pretty crazy. The most amazing part of the vid is the still picture of him kicking the rim in one of the shots. It may be a perspective illusion but if it isn't that is unreal.

Nah, that is the kick that got him the record.

That's insane. How does that happen? Can you actually train to jump that high?

Jumping ability can be trained up but not created to a high level. It is like sprint speed, you can make someone faster but not initially fast. You have to have that initial ability to start off with. In sprinting you coach up stride length, leg strength for drive force, and form/technique to increase overall speed. Stride rate is innate though for the most part, you can improve it a little but there is a reason sprinters don't run distance and distance runners can't decide to turn into 100m sprinters.
I saw a kid with no real technique high jump over 7' in high school while wearing a music player and full warmup suit while people who trained hours every day never came close. Jumping is really just has a lot to do with natural build and God given ability.
I have never heard of anyone with a 56 inch vertical though. 40+ is pretty insane normally. This guy is just freakish. :)
EDIT: Some athletes are just freaks of nature, like Usain Bolt. The man makes all the other "fastest runners in the world" look slow by comparison. You may have to install MS Silverlight to watch the video, it is worth it. All 3 olympic world records in one.

Lol, clearly not, otherwise he would probably be in the NBA. (Shooting+Jumping ability are must haves for the NBA).

More like Shooting+Defending. To play in the NBA, your defense needs to be a lot better than your Offense (or the oppositions).
You can do special exercises and muscle build ups to jump higher. But the thing that will improve you jumping the most is partially natural talent, but mostly practice. If you continuesly jump, your legs are going to be able to do that movement faster and more efficiant (more power and less energy). Your leg muscles also need to be pretty hefty, the higher your leg's mass is the higher amount of force you can exert onto the floor.

Defense can be taught, and he would just block every shot :p
If I could jump like this guy......that would be a dream.

Defense stance can be taught. Knowing where the ball is, where your player is, where the cutters are, where your teammates are and how you are standing to influence the opposition's movement, all require years, upon years, of practice and situational experience.

But, if he knew he could have been good at basketball (shooting, jumping, and some defensive knowledge), all of that would have been attainable throughout the years.
Clearly, he is not too great at those things, so he dunks for a profession.

Muscle mass doesn't always lead to higher jumps. People from the "world's strongest man" have probably the highest leg power in all sports, or maybe Olympic deadlifters, and none of them are great jumpers. Many of the best high/long jumpers aren't massive guys. A lot of it has to do with tendon and ligament strength. Joints are the weak point more so than muscle or bone in most cases. I agree you can train your jump higher but you need that primary ability. Everyone will cap out in jumping regardless of how much they train it. Body style and natural ability are the biggest things in jumping, that is why a track and field coach will take about 10 minutes to decide if he can turn someone into an upper class jumper or an average jumper.
Other basketball stuff, especially shooting is a repetition and muscle memory thing. The more you do it, the better you will get. That is why players like Ray Allen take 1000s of shots a day. People who are the best shooters normally put the most work into it. Defense, I always found in my time playing, to be more mental than physical. Being in the right position on the floor is the biggest part. Seeing a passing lane before someone can use it. Having good position between the rim and the driving player. Beating someone to the spot they want to use is the best strategy in defense from my experience, if you think about what they are trying to do offensively and make steps to remove that option before they have the chance to use it, it completely changes the balance of the game. If you do that the steals blocks and charge calls come right along with it.

Maybe it is just because I'm an ex-high jumper and ex-6ft tall basketball player that could jump, but I don't see how this guy is any more impressive than Vince Carter.
Defense doesn't really have a lot to do with physical ability, to a point, but more to do with effort. If you are willing to put in the effort you can stop anyone, within reason. Obviously I'm going to have trouble stopping Kobe because he could just shoot over me like there is no one there. Team defense is more about positioning and anticipation.

There is another video of him.
The difference is height. Is Vince Carter 5'11"?
I am not saying he is better then VC, because VC is a god at dunking, but Kadour is great too.

Maybe I'm just jaded, and unimpressed by dunks anymore no matter how tall the person is.
