View Full Version : Post your NCAA Tournament bracket

I figured I would get this up ahead of time. :)
Once the bracket sites come out with their online brackets post yours here. ESPN and Yahoo normally have their online brackets available by Monday morning. I can't wait for the tournament. If we get a few people to do it we could also score them and see who had the best bracket.
Whenever I have run pools or been in ones that worked out pretty well I have used the 1-2-4-6-10-15 scoring. I find the 1-2-4-8-16-32 to be way too end heavy and basically makes the first round (and sometimes the second) completely pointless, considering picking a champion is equal to a perfect first round.

mines not finished yet, but I cant wait for this year
My only problem with it is I feel that certain number 1 teams are just so much more dominant than the 2s, like pitt and duke I wouldnt put them in the same league
Ill post my bracket here once im done!

Yeah, it normally takes me a day or 2 to get one I like squared away. I'll post it when I finish. This year just from first look I am having a hard time getting away from a lot of chalk. I really can't see many upsets with the bracket they gave us. I know there will be some but I can't see them. Normally I nail at least one 5-12 upset (or higher) in the first round, I am having trouble finding one this year.

This is my first bracket on ESPN...I usually hipfire the first bracket as I like to see where my instincts take me.

I make 2 brackets every year, I only needed one last year, lol.
This year is another story... I like Pitt, Louisville, Memphis, and Oklahoma, for the final four.
I need to analize the bracket a little more before I start making bets at the books, I won so much money last year, muwhahaha.

I have UNC, UConn, Wake Forest, and Pitt for my Final Four.
Wake Forest has TONS of potential. That team will win in the next few years, I guarantee.

The final 4 I have in this first bracket is Louisville, Memphis, Pitt, and UNC with Pitt taking it all over Memphis. I think Cuse and WVU have the best chance at cracking the elite 8 and final 4...then again, we could see a final 4 of all 3's and below this year. It has been that crazy.

My first work through I had that same scenario for my 4, final, and champ. I am still 50/50 on Louisville getting to the Final Four though. Streaky team, they go hot and cold for long stretches in games. Also, as far as Syracuse goes, the last time they made a deep run into the Big East tournament they ended up folding really early in the NCAA. 4 games in a row, including 7 overtimes across them has to take something out of a team.

for some 5 12 upsets I know a lot of people like Arizona, I personally like wisconsin. WVU also is very underrated, they did beat duke last year in the tourney, and I love Wake, but really wish they wernt playing Louisville who is the hottest number 1 team right now.
My 4 isnt complete yet but is looking like memphis, wake, UNC and maybe pitt or nova. Cuse is really good, and for some reason i like clemson mich state and kansas a lot
Tenn is also a favorite of mine but the odds they bring their A game against the beastly pitt team isnt looking great but theres always a chance/
Maawdawg
03-17-2009, 08:40 AM
The only worry I have with Pitt this year is that they are one whistle happy ref from going home, besides a gimpy point guard. They get away with A LOT of physical play in the Big East. Syracuse is hot right now but a deep run for them may be hard after so much play in the conference tournament.
I am having a lot more trouble with this year's bracket than I normally do. Normally I can fly through it. Maybe I didn't watch enough basketball this year. I keep coming back to mostly chalk, my sweet 16 has so many high seeds this year, really unusual for me. I have some decent upsets in the first round but I cant see a deep run by any of them.

EDIT: I seriously can't stop messing with my brackets this year. I have gone in and flip flopped on so many picks. I just can't find hard favorites in a lot of games. Then looking at the LV lines makes it worse because there are no good spreads at all to help you say you are reading to far into upsets. When 13/4 matchups are getting 3.5-4 points spreads it shows how close the middle of the pack is this year. Plus there are way more teams playing at or near home than usual in the early rounds so that is making me rethink some of my picks. I also saw that if MSU gets through they end up with basically home games in Detroit to wrap it up.

Alright, I talked myself into some more upsets over the last day or so. I completely blew up my south bracket section with the UNC injury news. Bad toes don't go away in a few days and playing without your PG for chunks of the tournament is NEVER good.
My Final Four is...
Louisville, best team in that bracket if not the country, I could see Wake getting there though
Memphis, their defense get them there over UConn, who without Dyson don't have that 2nd scorer behind Price.
Pitt, best team in the tournament as long as Blair stays out of foul trouble and Fields' injury doesn't put him out.
Gonzaga, after years of hype they are finally deep enough to make a Final Four. With Lawson's injury I think they can beat UNC. Syracuse vs Oklahoma will be a great game Griffin vs the zone D and OKs guards trying to keep up with Syracuse's backcourt.
I have Memphis losing to Pitt in a low scoring Championship game.
I'll put up a link to my main bracket here shortly.

You know Maaw, I really wanted to pick Zaga. Truly. But they have cost me so much money and pride (yeah I said it) I couldn't put them further than the Sweet 16. And becuase I have NOT picked them to go Final 4 this year, they will undoubtedly make it. Yet again costing me more money. Welcome to my life. :D

There is talk of Lawson missing the whole weekend right now. I don't like him coming back rusty with a questionable toe in a big game and I really don't like UNC for a deep run without him healthy. He is the creator on that offense.
I have watched 20+ UConn games this year, including almost every one since Dyson went down. They just aren't the same team without him. Austrie is terrible and Kemba Walker is super-talented but erratic as a Freshman. Price is the only one who can make his own shot, one good on ball defender and their whole offense stalls out. UConn could also run into trouble if Thabeet gets over-hyped and gets in early foul trouble. A lot of that depends on the refs though.
I think Memphis' defense is too good to have them fall out early. They are the best defensive team in the country I think.
Nicholbert I totally hear you on the Gonzaga thing, befor this year I never believed in them for the tournament. They had 1-2 good players but no depth, that isn't a good sign ofr deep tourney runs. This year they are very deep. I watched them against UConn in the early season and they went to overtime, with UConn barely getting away with a win. If they have improved at all since then they should be poised for a solid run.

Oh yeah, Dyson is hurt...
So, I updated my Final Four:
UNC- Will make it IF Lawson plays, which I think he will.
Kansas- Good team...
Memphis- To be honest, I have no idea if they are good, but everyone says they are..
Pitt- Unreal, but I am not sure if they are good enough to beat UNC with Lawson..
I have UNC and Kansas in the final, a very emotional match for Roy Williams, with UNC winning by a respectable 12 points...Very high scoring. (80s-90s).

By bracket I think the South is the hardest group the top 4 teams in that section could all go deep in the right situation. I have Kansas being upset pretty early. I ended up switching off my Xavier upset in the first round I was really into it at first then just talked myself out of it at the last minute.
In looking at my bracket I probably favored the Big East a bit (as usual) due to my familiarity with the league and sold the ACC short (as usual) due to my dislike for Duke. I always make the mistake of underrating Big 12 teams too, they seem to do pretty well normally but I don't get to see their games enough here to become a believer.

Last year March Madness cost about $1.7 billion in man hours by estimates. The boss button is even mentioned in the article from last year.

Random fact that was just on my local news:
The only 2 times Jim Calhoun has missed a game due to illness in the NCAA tournament were in 1999 and 2004. The two times the Huskies won the whole thing. So maybe this is a good omen for the team?
Apparently he is staying overnight for observation in the hospital but is doing ok. They certainly pasted their first opponent like the favorite a 1 vs 16 game should.

yep for top seeds so far the only shakey start has been memphis. And as some have pointed out the style of play northridge used today is what missouri has been doing, but at a much higher caliber.
Also i was watching the beginning of the uconn game and while it was close uconn was having trouble at the foul line, which as memphis proved last year could determine the outcome of the champion.

Final 4: Louisville, UCONN, Oklahoma, and Pitt. Final game L'ville over Pitt 140 total score.
I did like Memphis a couple of days ago, but after yesterdays game I'm not to sure. oh well I had Missouri beating them in the third round in most of my brackets.
I think I'll do all right today. If I played the odds right I won't lose any money this year, but then I won't make that much either.

I had clemson in the sweet 16, and that killed me, but everythng else besides BYU and tenn are ok, the games that are on right now are boring cant wait for the usc game, and id like to see how well wake starts off
edit: WHY DID I PICK WVU i had dayton then switched back when espn raved about how wvu had a chance at the sweet 16

I am glad you are in our group, it makes my bracket look slightly less terrible. :D
WVU losing hurt me a lot. All my losses so far were only current round losses, that one is a 3 game loss.

Well Maaw I am glad I can help out somehow in all this mess...I knew it was going to be tough picking this year, but damn I didn't think it would be like this. I think this is the worst I have picked in a long time in Rnd 1. Oh well...what can ya do?

No one from UNC deserves anything, except a Win if they're playing Duke. Tyler had a great year last year, a great year this year, and he is going to be a shining star in the NBA probably. I don't think he deserves anything at all. Stupid effing WVU...

WVU killed me by losing. Tyler is a great college player but I don't see him as a star in the NBA. A solid nonstarter to average starter would be my projection.

OK, so I go out for the night and I come home to having 3 sweet 16 teams out. At least I didn't get hurt as bad as some people did by Wake losing. My bracket has officially reached the point where I give up on it and just root for the teams I want to win, regardless of what it does to my bracket score. I don't think I have got 12 first round games wrong ever.

I couldn't agree any more about UNC, I have no respect for the team and especially the coach. When Roy left Kansas, after their disappointing loss to Syracuse in the championship game several years ago, then turned right around and signed a contract with UNC, it felt like a punch to the kidneys. What goes around comes around I guess…
My main bracket is looking very strong. Wake forest cost me a couple of games, Louisville will beat however the play in the third round. The rest of the upsets won’t hurt me to much if they lose right away, if they keep on winning then I might be screwed, at least no one picked the upsets, so my bracket will hold up.
So far I have only missed 4 games, 27/32, after the first round.

3 of my Sweet 16 teams are gone, and thankfully I didn't put a whole lot of stock in WF. I don't know whats gonna happen as a lot of people had WF going far. Zaga is on big time upset alert today. WKU looks unbeatable. And not the sky is the limit of Cleveland St. Unreal.

UConn, 'Nova, and Memphis all looked dominant today in the early games. Hopefully the rest are a bit more competitive today, those weren't too exciting to watch. Now that I have less interest in my bracket I want to see some big upsets. :)

I made it through round 2 unscathed. I have 13/16 sweet 16 teams, and all my 8s alive. My 3 wrong from the first round were the only ones I am missing now so my bracket is semi-respectable now. The Big East has been a safe bet, and Marquette I had going out early due to their best player having a broken foot anyway.

If Marquette hadn't had the injury and that kid step on the endline at the end of the game the Big East might be undefeated as a conference still going into the sweet 16. That is crazy.
I can't wait for the games tonight.

That Memphis loss messed up my bracket completely. What a bad matchup for them, for a team with an acclaimed defense Memphis couldn't buy a stop last night.
That Mizzou/UConn matchup is going to be really fun to watch.
I should have just picked all Big East like I was going to but I thought I was just being too biased from watching all their games this year. Turns out that conference was just really really good.

That was a really good game. I think Nova is a hard matchup for anyone at this point. It seems like they have a never ending stream of guards. Their defense just kills people sometimes, thye absolutely shut Duke down. I am definitely looking forward to tomorrow's games. The Big East could go 3 out of 4 teams in the final four. The UNC v Oklahoma game should be really good as well. Griffin was very impressive against the Syracuse zone, which I thought may give him some problems. He is a beast. Lawson appears to be almost 100% so UNC looks good too, I was counting on his injury to be worse when I picked Gonzaga over them.
Now that my bracket is completely destroyed I can just go back to being a UConn fan for the Final Four at least. :D
