Is it a sport, not in the likes of baseball, football, basketball, soccer or hockey. It is hard to not admit though the huge following at the tracks every Sunday and the huge television ratings. SO many different forms of racing out there it is hard to follow it all or choose a favorite sometimes. I think of it more as a recreation sport. It works your body but maybe not as aggresive as the above.
I got into the sport more or so when I moved away from home as it was a chance to come home and keep close with my Dad. I regonize at times it is a very boring 3 hour event but can get very exciting when drivers are switching positions constantly and the last 10 or so laps of a race are usually very fun to watch.
I am also very into sprint car racing. I sponsor a car at our local dirt track. This racing is like no other out there. I only put it one way to people who see it for the first time. "You either are going to love it and come back or you will hate it and never come again". This sport has constant passing on banked tracks, sliding sideways at 100mph +. It is a very exciting form of racing and if you have not ever checked it out and have a racetrack near you, I highly recomend it. This for me is a family thing also, been doing it since I could crawl and would never imagine life with out it.
So if you like auto racing put it here.
